Adenoids: no operation is indispensable

What is adenoids?

Adenoids are the formation of lymphoid tissue, which forms the basis of the nasopharyngeal tonsil. The nasopharyngeal tonsil is located in the nasopharynx, therefore at usual survey of a pharynx of this fabric it is not visible. In order to examine the nasopharyngeal tonsil special ENT instruments are required.

Adenoids, or more correctly - adenoid vegetations (adenoidal deformations) is a widespread disease among children from 1 year to 14-15 years old. Most often, this disease occurs between the ages of 3 and 7 years old. Currently, there is a tendency to identify adenoids in children of an earlier age. What can bring to the presence of adenoids? It’s hearing impairment due to changes in normal middle ear physiology.

Normally, the difference between external atmospheric pressure and internal pressure in the middle ear cavity is regulated by the auditory (Eustachian) tube. The enlarged nasopharyngeal tonsil covers the mouth of the auditory tube, making it difficult for the air to pass freely into the middle ear. As a result, the tympanic membrane loses its mobility, which affects the auditory sensations. Frequent colds.

The condition for normal physiology of the nasal cavity is free nasal breathing. Normally, the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses produces mucus, which "cleans" the nasal cavity of bacteria, viruses and other pathogenic factors. If the child has an obstacle to the current of air in the form of adenoids, the outflow of mucus is difficult, and favorable conditions for the development of infection and the onset of inflammatory diseases are created. Other diseases, allergies, adenoids, obstructing nasal breathing, not only contribute to the onset of inflammatory diseases, but also in themselves are a good environment for the attack of bacteria and viruses. Therefore, the tissue of the nasopharyngeal tonsil, as a rule, is in a state of chronic inflammation. It receives a "permanent registration" of microbes and viruses. There is a so-called hotbed of chronic infection, from which microorganisms can spread throughout the body.

Reduced activity and learning ability

It is proved that if the nasal breathing becomes difficult, the human body receives less than 12-18% oxygen. Therefore, a child with nasal breathing difficulties due to adenoids has a permanent lack of oxygen, and, above all, the brain suffers.

Speech development disorders

If a child has adenoids, the growth of the bones of the facial skeleton is impaired. This, in turn, can adversely affect the formation of speech. The child does not pronounce individual letters, constantly speaks in the nose. And, parents often do not notice these changes, as they "get used" to the pronunciation of the child.

Inflammatory diseases of the middle ear

It has already been noted that the growth of adenoids disrupts the physiology of the middle ear, since adenoid overgrowths overlap the mouth of the auditory tube. In addition, in this situation, unfavorable conditions are created for the penetration and development of infection in the middle ear.

Inflammatory respiratory disease

With the proliferation of adenoid tissue, it develops chronic inflammation. This leads to the fact that mucus or pus is constantly being produced, which under the action of gravity descend into the lower parts of the respiratory system, and, passing through their mucous membrane, cause inflammatory processes - pharyngitis (pharyngeal inflammation), laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx), tracheitis Inflammation of the trachea) and bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi).

These are only the most noticeable and frequent disorders that occur in the child's body in the presence of adenoid vegetations. In fact, the spectrum of pathological changes that cause adenoids is much broader. This includes changes in the composition of the blood, disorders of the development of the nervous system, enuresis, impaired renal function, etc.

As a rule, one of these symptoms is enough to establish a diagnosis and conduct adequate medical measures.

Therefore, if you found one of the listed signs in your child, do not hesitate to contact an ENT doctor. Of course, a person can live with adenoids all his life, and specialists know such cases. But, as it becomes clear, the complex of various complications can significantly affect the quality of such life.
